Period property restoration in Bristol

Clifton, Cotham and Kingsdown have streets of listed Georgian houses that need repairing in the materials they were built with. Our joiners overhaul sash windows in the workshop, and our plasterer works in lime. For listed buildings we prepare the consent application with a heritage consultant.

Sash windows

We take sashes out two or three at a time and overhaul them in the workshop: new cords and pulleys, splice repairs to rotten timber, new glazing putty, and brush seals for draughts. The openings are boarded for two or three nights at most.

Why lime

Solid brick and stone walls need to let moisture out. Gypsum plaster and cement render trap it, and the wall stays damp behind them. Lime lets the wall dry, which is why we use it in every pre-1919 house we work on.
