Kitchen with oak worktops, fitted by us

Like most Bishopston terraces, this house had a galley kitchen with a narrow strip of yard beside it. Filling that strip added just under two metres of width, which is enough for a table between the worktops and the doors.

The build took 17 weeks, one longer than planned, because the build-over approval for the shared sewer took a month longer than usual. We had flagged that risk at the first meeting, and the family had arranged to stay with relatives for the two weeks when the back of the house was open.

Renovel warned us at the first meeting that Wessex Water could hold things up, and it did. Because they’d told us early, it didn’t wreck our plans.
