The house had its original wiring, a 1990s gas boiler and single-glazed windows in brown uPVC frames from the 1980s. The owners bought it to stay for twenty years, so the brief was to fix everything once.

We insulated the outside walls under a new render, which made a heat pump practical without losing room inside. At the back, two small rooms and a lean-to became one kitchen and living room with wide glazed doors to the garden. The family rented nearby for the eight months and got a cost report every two weeks.

Leila sent us a cost report every fortnight. We added a heat pump halfway through, and the price she gave us for it was the price we paid.
